The London Obesity Practice at the London Bridge Hospital is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative obesity therapy aimed at patients with a BMI of 30+. The therapy focuses on healthy eating habits and portion control and consists of 2 parts. Firstly, an intra-gastric balloon, known as the ReShape Duo, is inserted endoscopically in an outpatient procedure, and remains in the stomach for a 6 month period, occupying space in the stomach making the patient feel full. Secondly, the patient is supported by a dietician for the 6 months while the balloon is in place and given advice on portion control and support to develop healthy lifestyle habits.
There are many ways which one can go about losing weight in London. Gyms are a traditional and effective way to shed pounds, and London gyms have developed excellent customer service and superior facilities. Several large chains offer branches in London such as Virgin Active and Fitness First. One of the benefits of being a member of such gyms is the ability to use different centres across the capital and indeed the country. They offer standard gym equipment, along with swimming pools, classes and personal trainers. However, do expect facilities to differ from location to location. Prices start around £40 a month for an off-peak membership. There are of course many exclusive gyms across London but these services come at a premium. For those looking for a gym on a budget, the central YMCA is a great choice. Located close to the West End, the centre boasts a £25 metre pool and several classes including boxing and belly dancing.
The blood test looks at standard blood parameters, this includes liver function, thyroid, glucose, inflammation markers, cholesterol, red and white blood cells, etc.  This can therefore provide a great tool to track progress.  I often see inflammation markers reduce, glucose regulation improve, cholesterol levels lower. Note: It is not a blood test that looks at “food allergy”
Despite London being a large metropolis, there are a plethora of green and outdoor spaces which can be utilised to help you with weight loss. Using so-called 'Boris bikes' as a form of transportation, taking advantage of one of the many residential parks, or accessing one the outdoor pools or lidos can be a productive and more enjoyable way of getting in shape than the confines of a gym.

Our free monthly support groups provide opportunities before and after surgery to learn and ask questions of our dietitian, psychologist and bariatric nurse, as well as patients who share their personal stories about the challenges and successes of weight loss surgery. Support groups are open to anyone who has had or is planning to have weight loss surgery.
At your first meeting, you will meet with a medical professional for preliminary testing. Certain states require that patients meet directly with a physician for the initial consult. In those locations, you will meet with a board-certified MD (medical doctor) or DO (doctor of osteopathic medicine). Some, but not all of the doctors, have additional training or credentials in obesity medicine.
I have helped numerous clients succeed in significant weight loss journeys that involve losses of over 20-30 kg in body fat over the space of 1-2 years or more. I actually find such longer term journeys more rewarding as they allow me to teach my clients about the impact of nutrition and lifestyle habits on their physiology. This not only helps them, but also helps those closest to them as well.
