Bariatric surgery is saving lives and benefiting people struggling with morbid obesity worldwide. With each successful procedure, the medical community sees further evidence that bariatric surgery is an effective weight loss tool and treatment for obesity-related health conditions. Many studies show that bariatric surgery patients are living longer, higher-quality lives.
Some patients have a need for other consultations (for example, with a consultant psychiatrist/ full course of psychological therapy, or a sleep apnoea consultant), or may require blood tests, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, or overnight sleep oximetry; these would all be separately charged. If a patient requires more frequent support or help – including additional consultations or weekly support, these will be charged in separately.
However, if your life is chaotic it can be really difficult to focus successfully on the plan. People who work extremely long hours; never do grocery shopping; hardly cook or prepare food at home; travel every week for business; spend most of their meals out socialising or at work events…..these situations make it really hard to do the plan well (although I have had clients in very demanding jobs who have made it work)
Lastly, you enter the Wellness Phase when you have met your goal weight. Monthly visits help to keep you on track with your long-term weight maintenance plan, and additional testing and supplements may be suggested. During this phase, the dieter moves to a 40/30/30 eating plan where 40 percent of calories consumed come from carbohydrates, 30 percent come from fats and 30 percent come from protein.
Regular physical activity is important but who said you have to buy expensive equipment or gym memberships? simaktiv’s goal is to add physical activity into your lifestyle in a fun and convenient way. Our own workouts range from dance and pilates to HIIT cardio. We even have low impact workouts and chair-based exercises for those with mobility issues.
The way we do this is through metabolic resistance training that is designed to increase lean muscle tissue (which is metabolically active). One of the biggest myths we hear is that women don’t want to ‘bulk up’ but the opposite will happen with this type of training. Muscle takes up less space than fat (per unit of weight) and so adding muscle will lead to a decrease in fat as metabolism is elevated. We also end each session with metabolic afterburner’s – exercises that are designed to keep metabolism elevated for 24-36 hours after each session.
The IRS does allow Flexible Spending Accounts to be used for Medical Weight Loss Plans and many of our patients have used this to pay for some of their program. Proper documentation is required in order to use this benefit. We will help you through this process.
