Dr Lisa Gatenby, MSc; PhD is a Registered Nutritionist, with a PhD in Nutrient intakes and a Masters of Medical Science in Human Nutrition. She is a Registered Nutritionist, approved by the Association for Nutrition (who control the UK voluntary register of Nutritionists). Dr Gatenby started her career with a love of food and worked as a chef for 5 years followed by food development for 4 years before progressing into nutrition. Dr Gatenby has been working in Nutrition for the last 10 years and as well as offering consultancy services works in Public Health, she delivers lectures at various universities. Dr Gatenby helps people meet their goals whilst enjoying tasty and satisfying food.
Obesity results from interactive influences of biological, physiological, psycho-social, behavioural and environmental factors. With such a multifactorial aetiology, prevention of weight gain, weight loss and weight maintenance is less than straightforward. Whilst the energy equation (calories consumed = calories expended +/- calories stored as body fat or glycogen) holds true, food choice is highly complex. As such, interventions that only address factors at the individual level, and do not take into account the social and environmental influences mentioned above, are unlikely to be successful.
